The channel is 12 km long, as both sides rise very steep hills, sometimes as high as 200 meters (St. Martin 230 m). At a height of 120 meters above the sea is Romuald cave where, according to legend, at the beginning of the 11th century life of a hermit, in prayer and meditation, lived a holy Romuald.
